Women's Lacrosse Remains Unbeaten in NEWLA with 16-12 Win Over Becker

Leicester, Mass. – The Framingham State University women's lacrosse team opened up a 10-6 halftime lead and held on to defeat Becker College 16-12 in New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) action Thursday evening.

Framingham State junior Kerry Kiley (Mansfield, Mass.) led the Rams with a game-high five goals, including the eventual game winner on a free position shot early in the second half. The Rams had five players score multiple goals in the game including sophomore Louie Rijo (Salem, Mass.), who chipped in two goals and two assists. Senior Stephanie Corrales (Framingham, Mass.), sophomores Chelsea Temple (Rutland, VT) and Heather Massee (Billerica, Mass.) and freshman Lauren Kent (Framingham, Mass.) chipped in two goals apiece.

Sophomore goalie Kelsey Turner (Billerica, Mass.) made seven saves as Framingham improves to 2-4 overall on the year and 2-0 in the NEWLA.

Junior Morgan Hazen (Woodstock, VT.) led the Hawks with four goals and three assists. Ashley Mossey (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) continued her outstanding freshman campaign with another hat trick.  Shannon Smith (Barre, VT) and Vanessa Laureano (Dracut, Mass.) added two goals apiece in the loss.

Becker goalie Alena Phongsa (Putnam, Conn.) made eight saves in a losing effort as the loss drops the Hawks to 5-4 overall and 1-1 in the NEWLA.

Becker jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 31 seconds into the game , but the Rams offense came alive scoring the next seven goals of the game including a pair from Kiley to take a 7-1 lead with just over 24 minutes remaining in the half.

The Hawks pulled within four just before the break with three goals in the final ten minutes, but the Rams opened the second half scoring four goals in the first six minutes, including the game winner from Kiley on a free position shot with 24:57 remaining in the game, to put the game away.

The Rams resume NEWLA action on Saturday as they travel to Elms at 4 p.m.
