Providence, RI – The Framingham State University women's lacrosse team lost a hard fought non-conference game this evening at Rhode Island College as they were defeated 9-8 in overtime by the Anchormen at the RIC Lacrosse Field.

In the first half, the Anchorwomen (3-1) fell behind just 67 seconds into the game as junior Kery Kiley (Mansfield, Mass.) scored her first of the game. 

RIC quickly answered, tying the contest just 35 seconds later on a goal from freshman attacker Ashley Signoriello (Cranston, RI), assisted by junior attacker Molly Voyer (Lincoln, RI). The two then reversed roles, with a Voyer goal assisted by Signoriello giving the Anchorwomen their first lead, 2-1, five minutes later. Junior attacker Nicky Drolet (Somersworth, NH) capped off a three-goal run with a tally, assisted by Signoriello, with 20:42 remaining.

After the Rams (1-2) scored a pair of free position goals, one from sophomore Heather Masse (Billerica, Mass.) and one from Kiley, to tie the game at three with 6:41 left in the half, the Anchorwomen commenced another three-goal burst.  Signoriello notched her second tally with 4:53 to play as RIC regained the lead.  Sophomore midfielder Courtney McKiernan (Hope, RI) widened the lead to 5-3 on a free position shot and Drolet capped off the run on her second goal with 2:22 left. The Anchorwomen led, 6-4, at halftime.

Framingham sophomore attack Chelsea Temple (Rutland, VT) took control of the game just before halftime, getting the fourth goal on the board, assisted by sophomore defender Brittany McLean (Walpole, Mass.) with 42 seconds remaining. Temple carried the momentum into the second stanza, finding the net off of another McLean feed with 18:25 left in regulation. Temple later tied the game, 6-6, with her third goal on a free position shot with 16:38 left.

The two teams traded goals back and forth the rest of the way, with Signoriello and Drolet each scoring their third goals of the game for the Anchormen and senior Stephanie Corrales (Framingham, Mass.) notching one for the Rams.

The Anchormen led into the final minute, but Kiley tied the game, 8-8, with just 18 seconds to play off a feed from sophomore attack Louie Rijo (Salem, Mass.) to force the extra period.

In the overtime, Drolet scored the decisive goal, unassisted, with 2:10 remaining in the first three-minute overtime period. For Drolet, it was her game-high fourth goal. She added an assist for a five-point effort, which Signoriello equaled with a hat trick and two helpers of her own. Kiley and Temple each had three goals for the Rams in defeat.

RIC freshman goalkeeper Taryn Carbone (Cranston, RI) improved to 3-1 on the season, making seven saves along the way. Framingham sophomore net minder Kelsey Turner (Billerica, Mass.) made six stops in the losing effort (1-1).

The Rams held advantages for the game in both shots (26-21) and ground balls (19-16), while RIC committed 42 fouls in the contest.
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host Salve Regina on Thursday, March 31 at 6 p.m., while the Rams host another LEC opponent on Thursday at 4 p.m. in Western Connecticut State.
