Women’s Lacrosse Holds Off UMass Dartmouth for 16-13 Win

Framingham, Mass. — The Framingham State College women’s lacrosse team scored four goals in the final 11 minutes to defeat the UMass Dartmouth Corsairs 16-13 today in non-conference women’s lacrosse action at Maple Street Field. With the win, the Rams improve to 3-2 on the season, while the Corsairs even their record at 3-3.       

Framingham State freshman Brittany McLean (Walpole, Mass.) led all scorers with six goals and an assist in the game. Sophomore Kerry Kiley (Mansfield, Mass.) added three goals, while senior Ashley Noonan (Mansfield, Mass.) and freshman Chelsea Temple (Rutland, VT) chipped in two goals apiece.  Noonan and Stephanie Corrales (Framingham, Mass.) each picked up three assists in the game.

The Corsairs were led by Allison Trearchis (Tyngsboro, Mass.) and Gillian Carey (Waltham, Mass.) who scored four goals apiece.  Trearchis added two assists, while Carey picked up one. 

The Rams held an 8-5 lead at the half and extended the lead to 9-5 just over two minutes into the second half on a goal from Temple.

UMass Dartmouth responded with six unanswered goals over the next five minutes to take an 11-9 lead with just over 22 minutes remaining in the game.  The Rams scored the game’s next three goals to retake the lead.  The Rams lead was short lived as Carey tied the game at 12-12 at the 47:17 mark.

McLean scored the next three goals for the Rams to give the Rams a 15-12 lead with just under five minutes remaining.  The two teams traded goals in the 57th minute to reach the final margin of 16-13.

Freshman Kelsey Turner (Billerica, Mass.) picked up the win for the Rams as she made 11 saves.

The Rams return to action on Tuesday as they travel to Simmons at 7 p.m., while UMass Dartmouth hosts Fitchburg State on Thursday at 4 p.m.
