Kiley Scores Four as Women's Lacrosse Falls at Western Connecticut

Danbury, Conn. -  Sophomore Brianna Mitterando (Mastic Beach, NY) led a balanced offensive attack with three goals as the Western Connecticut State University women’s lacrosse team improved to 6-1 on the season with a 19-11 win over Framingham State College Thursday afternoon at the Westside Athletic Complex.  The Rams even their record at 2-2 with the loss.

A total of 12 Colonials scored at least one goal, led by Mitterando’s hat trick and two goals each from freshman Lindsay Gorman (Killingworth, NY), freshman Kelly Brennan (Hicksville, NY), freshman Nicole Perrone (Brookfield, Conn.), sophomore Kaitlyn Arconti (Danbury, Conn.), and senior Jessica Majeski (Norwalk, Conn.).

For Framingham State, Kerry Kiley (Mansfield, Mass.) led all scorers with four goals, while Ashley Noonan (Mansfield, Mass.) scored three goals and Brittany McLean (Walpole, Mass.) scored twice.

WestConn took control of the game early with two goals in the first minute, one each by Mitterando and senior Kara Kruczkiewicz (Brookfield, Conn.).  Framingham State narrowed the gap to 2-1 at the 20:23 mark, but the Colonials scored seven of the next eight goals to lead 9-2 with less than 10 minutes remaining in the first half.  Kiley then scored back-to-back goals for the Rams, but Mitterando started another run for the Colonials who took a 12-5 advantage into the locker room at intermission.

Framingham State appeared to grab the momentum to start the second half by scoring two unanswered goals, and holding the Colonials scoreless for the first eleven minutes.  Mitterando got the ball rolling again for the Colonials who scored four straight, including two goals by Majeski just over 30 seconds apart to give WestConn a 16-7 lead.  The Colonials increased their lead to 19-9 before Framingham State score the game’s final two goals to make the final margin 19-11 in favor of WestConn.

For the game, WestConn held a 35-24 advantage in shots, 28-20 in shots on goal.

Freshman goalkeeper Meghan Maroney (Granby, Conn.) made nine saves for the Colonials to earn her sixth win of the season, while Kelsey Turner (Billerica, Mass.) also had nine saves in a losing effort for the Rams.

The Rams return to action on Saturday as they host UMass Dartmouth at 1 p.m., while WestConn travels to Southern Maine for a Little East Conference match-up against the Huskies on Saturday with game time slated for 1 p.m.
