Women's Lacrosse Holds on to Defeat Fitchburg State

Framingham, MA - The Framingham State College women's lacrosse held off a late surge by the Fitchburg State Falcons to pick up a 13-12 win today on Maple Street Field.  With the win, the Rams improve to 6-7 on the season, while the loss drops the Falcons to 5-8.

The Rams were led by sophomore Stephanie Corrales (Framingham, MA) who led all scorers with a game-high seven points on five goals and two assists. Freshman Kerry Kiley (Mansfield, MA) chipped in three goals, while junior Ashley Noonan (Mansfield, MA) added two goals and an assist.

The Falcons were led by freshman Amanda Burns (Weymouth, MA) who scored a team-high six goals, while junior Emily Swan (Franklin, MA) added two goals and two assists and Tori D'Amato (Hampden, MA) added two goals and an assist.

The Rams used a 6-0 run midway through the first half to open up an 11-7 lead at the half.  Corrales led the Rams as she tallied all five of her goals in the first half, while Kiley added two goals.  Burns led the Falcons with three first half goals, while Swan added one and handed out two assists.

Rams lead down to one on Burns fifth goal of the game with 6:02 remaining.  The Rams pushed their lead back to two goals just two minutes later as Kiley scored off a pass from Corrales.  The Falcons answered less than 30 seconds later as Burns scored her sixth of the day with 3:40 remaining. 

The Rams, who held a 27-25 advantage in shots for the game, were able hold on over the final minutes to pick up the win.  Sophomore Allesha Kenyon (Westford, MA) made nine saves on the day and picked up the win in net for the Rams, while senior Jen Astrella (Auburn, MA) made 14 saves in a losing effort.

The Rams return to action next Wednesday as they host Anna Maria College at 4:30 p.m. on Senior Day, while the Falcons travel to Thomas College on Saturday at 11a.m.
