Women's Lacrosse Falls To Western Connecticut, 17-11

Framingham, MA - Junior midfielder Kara Kruczkiewicz (Brookfield, CT) scored a team-high five goals and senior Whitney Fairchild (New Milford, CT) added four as the Western Connecticut State University women's lacrosse team cruised to a 17-11 non-conference win on the road today over the Framingham State Rams.  With the win the Colonials improve to 6-4 on the season, while the loss drops the Rams to 2-4 overall

The Rams wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as junior attack Kayla Sheehan (Watertown, MA) took the ball the length of the field for the Rams first goal of the day just 40 seconds into the game.  Western Connecticut would tie the score on a tally from senior attack Ashley Caruso (Northport, NY) at the 7:41 mark.  The Rams freshman standout Kerry Kiley (Mansfield, MA) would score her first of the day at 17:17 to put the Rams up 2-1, but that was the last lead held by the Rams as the Colonials scored five goals in seven minutes to open up a lead they not relinquish.  Freshman Jessica Bouwman (New Milford, CT) and Fairchild scored unassisted at 20:56 and 23:35.  Kruczkiewicz scored at 24:22, Caruso added an unassisted tally and freshman Brianna Metterando (Mastic Beach, NY) added a goal at 26:51.  Bouwman assisted on Kruczkiewicz and Metterando's tallies.

The Rams were able to cut the Colonials lead to two goals (12-10) on Kiley's game-high sixth goal of the day at 51:24, but the Colonials rattled off three unanswered goals in the next five minutes to put the game out of reach.

Kiley finished the day with a game-high six goals and now leads the Rams with 24 goals on the season.  Sophomore attack Stephanie Corrales (Framingham, MA) added three goals for the Rams.

Bouwman finished the day with two goals and three assists for the Colonials, while Jessica Majeski (Norwalk, CT) added a goal and an assist.

The Colonials outshot the Rams 35-24 on the day and 20-10 in the opening half.  Framingham State sophomore goalie Allesha Kenyon (Westford, MA) made 15 saves on the day in a losing effort, while freshman Mercedes Koehler (Bethel, CT) made 10 stops en route to the win.

The Rams return to action on Thursday as they travel Worcester State for a 7 p.m. game.
