O'Connor and Carpenter Earn NEWBA All-Region Honors

Northampton, Mass. – Senior forward Flannery O'Connor and senior guard Gwendolyn Carpenter have been selected to the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) all-region teams. The All-Region Teams were nominated and voted on by coaches from around the region for their impact on the hardwood during the regular season. 

O'Connor earned third team honors after being recognized earlier this year as a first team All-MASCAC selection. O'Connor, who earned All-MASCAC honors in each of her four seasons, averaged 15.5 points and 11.4 rebounds per game, picking up 14 double-doubles in 25 games. She ranks first in the league in free-throw percentage (83.1%), second in rebounds (286), second in field goal percentage (51.9%) and fifth in points (414). 

Carpenter earned fourth team honors and was previously named the MASCAC Co-Player of the Year and a first team All-MASCAC selection.  Carpenter was the anchor for the MASCAC Regular Season Champion Rams who were 11-1 in league play this season. Carpenter averaged 9.5 points and 5.9 rebounds, but she made the biggest impact with her league-leading 193 assists, second-best free throw percentage at 82.6 and third-highest three-point percentage at 36.4. Her assists per game average of 7.4 led Division III and twice this season, she registered a triple double which is the third-most in Division III this season. In a pivotal win at Westfield State, Carpenter finished with 21 points, 12 assists and 11 rebounds.
