Women’s Basketball Closes Record Breaking Season with Loss to Scranton in Opening Round of the NCAA Tournament

Scranton, PA. - The Framingham State University women's basketball team closed a record setting season this evening when they suffered a 60-39 loss to host Scranton in an opening round game of the 2024 NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament at the John Long Center.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

  • The Rams were paced in the game by a double double effort of 12 points and 15 rebounds from senior Flannery O'Connor. 

  • Katherine Hasel chipped in with 11 points, four rebounds and two assists, while Gwendolyn Carpenter finished the night with six points and five rebounds. 

  • Trailing 4-2 in the first the Rams used a 7-0 run capped by a Carpenter three to take a 9-4 lead four minutes into the game. Scranton closed the quarter with a 7-2 run of their own tying the game at 11-11 after one. 

  • Trailing 18-13 in the second, Abigail Martin sank a layup in traffic closing the gap to 18-15 just under three minutes into the quarter, but back-to-back baskets for Scranton pushed the lead back seven. A pair of O'Connor free throws and another Martin bucket closed the gap to 22-19 with three to go, but Scranton scored the final seven points of the frame to lead 29-19 at the half. 

  • Scranton opened the second half with a 12-2 run opening up a 41-21 lead midway through the third quarter. A Carpenter floater in the paint closed the quarter for the Rams making the score 46-28 after three. The Royals maintained the lead throughout the fourth to advance to the second round of the tournament.
