Women’s Basketball Downs Salem State in MASCAC Semifinal; Set New Program Record for Wins

Framingham, Mass. – The top-seeded Framingham State women's basketball team defeated #4 Salem State by a score of 81-55 in the MASCAC Semifinal Thursday evening in Framingham. The Rams advance to the MASCAC Championship Game vs. #2 seed Bridgewater State on Saturday at 1pm in Framingham. 

With the victory the Rams improve to 23-2 on the season establishing a new program record in wins, eclipsing the previous record of 22 wins set in 2019-20 and 2021-22.

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The Rams were paced with a combined 41 points from senior Flannery O'Connor and junior Kelsey Yelle. O'Connor had a double-double with 24 points and 19 rebounds adding two blocks while Yelle scored 19 points going 7-for-10 from the floor and picking up eight rebounds.  

  • Michelle Moreno picked up 11 points while Chloe Rayko scored 12 connecting on 4-of-8 from downtown. Gwendolyn Carpenter once again registered double-digit assists picking up 10 helpers on the night.  

  • Abuk Teng scored a team-high 20 points for Salem while Nicolette D'Itria scored 12 points on the night for the Vikings.  

  • The Rams jumped out to a 6-0 lead and never looked back pushing their first quarter lead to 11 after back-to-back treys from Rayko.  

  • Framingham held a consistent ten-point lead throughout most of the second quarter before pushing their advantage to 15 at the half.  

  • The Rams put the game away in the third quarter outscoring the Vikings 20-11 in the frame and pushing the lead to as much as 31 early in the 4th quarter.  

UP NEXT: 

The Rams will host #2 seed Bridgewater State in the MASCAC Championship Game on Saturday at 1pm at Logan Gymnasium in Framingham. The Bears handed the Rams their only loss in New England this season with a 56-47 defeat at Bridgewater on January 6th. The Rams avenged their lone conference loss with a 59-58 win over the Bears on January 31st.
