Women's Basketball Suffers First Loss of Season to #10 Trinity (TX) at D3hoops.com Classic

Las Vegas, NV. - The Framingham State University women's basketball team suffered their first loss of the season this afternoon as they were defeated 83-74 by 10thranked Trinity (TX) at the D3hoops.com Hoops Classic at South Point Arena.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

  • The Rams were paced by a double double of 17 points and 16 rebounds from Flannery O'Connor, while Katherine Haselton finished the day with 16 points, four rebounds and four assists. 

  • Gwendolyn Capenter finished the game with 15 points, eight rebounds, six assists and two steals, while Gabriella Redford came off the bench and went 2-for-5 from behind the arc. 

  • The first two quarters were back and forth with the Rams largest lead being two and the Tigers largest lead being five on a pair of occasions including at the end of the second quarter when they went to the locker room leading 36-31. 

  • In the third quarter, the Tigers built the lead to as many as 16 (60-44) with just over two to play in the frame. The Rams tallied four straight points on a pair of O'Connor free throws and an Abigail Martin basket, before a pair of free throws gave the Tigers a 62-48 lead after three. 

  • In the fourth quarter, the Rams chipped away at the lead closing the deficit to 67-60 after a Yelle basket with 6:30 on the clock. After the Tigers pushed the lead back to 11, the Rams used a 7-0 spurt capped by a three-point play from Haselton to close the gap to 71-67 with 2:44 on the clock. 

  • The Tigers responded with a three pushing the lead back to seven and held on for the victory over the Rams.
