Women's Basketball Shoots Past Rivier 83-72

Framingham, Mass. - The Framingham State University women's basketball team continued the best start to a season in program history remaining undefeated as the Rams cruised to an 83-72 victory over Rivier University this evening in non-conference action at Logan Gymnasium.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

  • In a tightly contested first quarter that saw multiple lead changes, the Rams used a 6-0 run capped by a three from Chloe Rayko to take an 18-12 lead, but Rivier closed the gap with a spurt of their own and trailed 20-17 after one. 

  • Rivier took the lead back 26-25 just under four minutes into the second quarter on a made three from Lyric Grumblatt. The two teams would trade points and the lead until the Rams used a 10-2 spurt to take a 39-32 lead into the locker room. 

  • The Rams started the third quarter with an 8-2 run pushing their lead to double digits. The Rams by as many as 19 in the third before taking a 63-48 lead into the fourth. 

  • Rivier closed the gap to ten, 65-55, in the opening minutes of the fourth, but that was as close as they would get as the Rams secured the non-conference victory improving to 9-0 which is the best start in program history. 

  • The Rams were paced by double doubles from Flannery O'Connor and Kelsey Yelle. O'Connor poured in 24 points and grabbed 14 boards to go along with two assists and two steals, while Yelle finished the game with 21 points and 13 boards. 

  • Katherine Haselton filled the stat sheet with 15 points, eight boards, four assists and a steal, while Rayko finished with 14 points off the bench for the Rams. 

  • Grumblatt finished the night with a game-high 33 points for Rivier. She added eight rebounds, six assists and two steals. 

  • Alexa Dufries chipped in with 17 points for the Raiders, while Rachel Guinn added 11 and three boards.
