Women’s Basketball Improves to 6-0 After 69-58 Win at Salve Regina

Newport RI – The Framingham State women's basketball team overcame a nine-point 3rdquarter deficit to defeat the Seahawks 69-58 in non-conference play Thursday evening in Newport.  

THE BASICS: 

- Score:  Framingham State 69, Salve Regina 58 

- Records:  Framingham State (6-0), Salve Regina (3-5) 

- Location:  Rodgers Recreation Center Newport, RI 

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

  • The Seahawks jumped out the early lead ending the first quarter up 21-16 and pushing their halftime lead to 33-26.  

  • Leading 41-32 midway through the third quarter the Rams made their move. Over the next four minutes the Rams would snap off a 15-5 run capped by a Chloe Rayko jumper to knot the game at 47 where it would stay to end the third.  

  • After trading baskets to open the fourth it was again, Rayko who hit a jumper to give the Rams the lead they would never relinquish.  

  • Salve kept it to within a possession or two for most of the period but the Rams would keep answering.  

  • Gwendolyn Carpenter went 8-for-10 from the line in the final 90 seconds to ice the game for the Rams.  

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • The Rams received double-doubles from senior Flanery O'Connor with 13 points and 11 boards and junior Kelsey Yelle with a game-best 18 points and ten boards, adding in three blocks and three steals.  

  • Junior Chloe Rayko added 14 points and senior Gwendolyn Carpenter scored 11 points while dishing out seven assists.  

  • Sofia Neary scored 16 points for Salve with nine rebounds while Ashley Rourke added 13 points and Amanda Folan chipped in 12.  

  • The Rams shot 43% from the field while the Seahawks only shot 32% from the floor.  

  • Framingham connected on 27% from beyond the arc while Salve only converted 13% from long range.
