Women's Basketball Holds On for 56-53 Victory over Middlebury

Middlebury, VT - The Framingham State University women's basketball team held off a late charge from Middlebury as the Rams defeated the Panthers 56-53 this evening at the Middlebury Tip-Off Tournament.   

THE BASICS: 

-Scores:  Framingham State 56, Middlebury 53 

- Records: Framingham State (3-0), Middlebury (1-2)

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

  • The first two quarters were back and forth with multiple ties and lead changes. Katherine Haselton closed the second quarter with a three-pointer giving the Rams a 27-26 lead at the half. 

  • The third quarter was once again back and forth, and the frame ended with the two teams tied at 41-41. 

  • The Rams opened up a six point lead in the fourth quarter, but Middlebury tied that game at 49-49 with four minutes to go. Gwendolyn Carpenter responded with a three-point play putting the Rams on top 52-49 with 3:33 to go. 

  • The Panthers closed the gap to one with 1:08 to play, but a Kelsey Yelle bucket put the Rams back on top by the three with under a minute to play. The Rams were able to hold on down the stretch for the victory. 

  • The Rams were paced by 14 points from Carpenter. Carpenter connected on 4-of-7 from the floor and added two rebounds, five assists and a steal. 

  • Haselton finished the game with 13 points, three boards and two steals, while Yelle chipped in with 10 points and seven boards off the bench.

The Rams are back in action at Middlebury tomorrow when they face St. Lawrence at 1 p.m.
