Big Third Quarter Sends Women’s Basketball to Home Opener Win Over Conn. College

Framingham, Mass. The Framingham State women's basketball team used a 21-point third quarter en route to a 68-57 win over Connecticut College in non-conference play Tuesday night in Framingham.  

THE BASICS: 

- Score:  Framingham State 68, Connecticut College 57 

- Records: Framingham State (2-0), Connecticut College (0-1) 

- Location: Logan Gymnasium Framingham, Mass. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

  • The Rams took a double-digit lead in the first quarter that the Camels would chip away in the second quarter to make it a two-point game at the half.  

  • The Camels made a trey to open the second half and after trading points for the first part of the third the Rams went on a 13-2 run to head into the final frame up 51-40. 

  • The Rams would push their lead to as much as 14 midway through the 4th quarter but the Camels would battle back and get the game to within nine, but the Rams held on making their free throws at the end of the 4th 

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • The Rams were led by senior Flannery O'Connor who scored 25 points with 14 rebounds. Classmate Gwendolyn Carpenter scored 14 points going 8-of-9 from the free throw line and dishing out six assists while junior Katherine Haselton added 12 points with five assists and four steals. 

  • Addi Hunter and Rebecca Oberman-Levine each put up 13 points in the setback for Conn College. Mia Xerras scored nine points with six helpers and Hayle Thompson scored six with ten boards.  

  • Both teams were 24-for-64 from the field but the Rams took advantage on the free throw line going 19-of-24 from the charity stripe compared to 4-of-5 for the Camels.

The Rams return to the court on Friday when they travel to Middlebury for a non-league contest at 5:00pmConn College will play Skidmore at Trinity (Conn.) on Friday at 7:30pm.
