Women’s Basketball Holds Off Albertus Magnus in Season Opener

New Haven, Conn.  The Framingham State women's basketball team defeated Albertus Magnus by a score of 78-72 in the season opener for both squads 

THE BASICS: 

- Score:  Framingham State 78, Albertus Magnus 72 

- Records: Framingham State (1-0), Albertus Magnus (0-1) 

- Location: Cosgrove Marcus Messer Athletic Center New Haven, Conn. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

  • A back-and-forth first half found the Falcons leading 31-30 with just over two minutes to in the half but an 8-0 run put the Rams up 38-31 at halftime. 

  • The Rams built their lead to as much as 13 points on a Chloe Rayko trey with 1:45 left to go in the third quarter but the Falcons would fight back.  

  • After reclaiming a ten-point lead after another Rayko trey with under five minutes to play the Falcons snapped off an 8-0 run to cut their deficit to 70-68 with just over two minutes to go. After an action-packed couple possessions, the Rams were able to draw a couple fouls and pull back ahead as time expired.  

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • The Rams were led by 21 points off the bench from junior Chloe Rayko in her first action with the Rams. Rayko was deadly from long range going 6-for-8 from beyond the arc.  

  • Senior Flannery O'Connor posted the double-double with 19 points and a game-high 22 rebounds.  

  • Albertus was paced by Caitlyn Scott who scored 28 points while Jakara Murray-Leach posted a double-double with 14 points and 11 boards. 

  • The difference in the game was on the glass where the Rams outpaced the hosts 60-to-31 in rebounds turning into 19 second chance points for the Rams.

The Rams return to the court on Tuesday, November 14th when they host Connecticut College at 7:00pm.
