Women’s Basketball Earns 75-68 Overtime Victory Over Bridgewater State

Framingham Mass  Framingham's Katty Haidul drained a game tying three pointer with under ten seconds to play in regulation to force overtime as the Rams defeated Bridgewater State 75-68 in MASCAC action Monday afternoon in Bridgewater.  

THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The Bears took at fourteen-point lead early in the second quarter and after trading baskets for most of the second half the Rams cut the deficit to nine to head into the half when Krysta Padellaro hit both of her free throws in the final seconds of the second quarter.  

  • The Bears pushed their lead back up to 13 about three minutes into the third when the Rams snapped off a 14-0 run over the next four minutes. The run featured baskets by five different Rams to lead them to their first lead of the game on a Haidul jumper with 3:48 to play.  

  • After numerous ties and lead changes over the next twelve or so minutes the Bears hit a trey with about 90 seconds to go, got a stop and converted a layup to take a 60-55 lead with 52 ticks remaining. After a Rams timeout, Gwendolyn Carpenter hit a deep trey to cut the Bears lead to two. Both teams committed turnovers on their next possessions and the Rams fouled with 16 seconds to play. The Bears hit the first of their two shots from the line, Rams scooped the rebound and called a timeout.  

  • Now with 12 seconds to play, Padellaro's three-pointer rimmed out was cleaned up near the baseline by Haidul who drained the step-back three-pointer to send the game to overtime.  

  • The Rams jumped out on fire in overtime with an O'Connor layup followed by a Camille Desrochers trey and a Haidul layup to jump out to a 68-61 lead and would never look back cruising to a 75-68 win.   

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • The Rams were led by double-double performances by the sophomore duo of Katty Haidul & Flannery O'Connor. Haidul scored 19 points including the clutch trey in the final seconds of regulation while picking up a career-high 24 rebounds with two assists and three steals. O'Connor led all scorers with 21 points with a career-high 17 rebounds, four helpers and two rejections. Krysta Padellaro added 14 points with four steals and Gwendolyn Carpenter chipped in 12 points with a team-high six assists.  

  • The Bears got 17 points from Kylie Grassi who was 12-of-14 from the charity stripe. Jannise Avelino scored 12 points while Destiny Fitzgerald and Sydney Bradbury chipped in 10 a piece. Fitzgerald also had a team best 17 rebound and five blocked shots.  

  • Statistically the game was very close as both teams shot 33 percent from the field. The Bears had 22 turnovers to 19 for the Rams translating to a 15-to-14 margin in points of turnovers in favor of the Rams.  

  • Framingham State did outrebound the hosts 63-50 and scored 13 second chance points to Bridgewater's 11.

  • The Rams are off until Saturday January 22nd when they travel to Salem State and open up a stretch of four games in eight days. The Bears travel to Westfield State for MASCAC action on Wednesday, January 19th
