Women's Basketball Powers Past Becker 78-36

Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University women's basketball team received a double double from freshman Katty Haidul (Wakefield, Mass.) as the Rams defeated Becker College 78-36 in non-conference action this evening at the Athletic Center.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

• Haidul records her first collegiate double double with a team-best 15 points and 11 rebounds in the game as she connected on 7-of-11 from the field.
• Junior Camille Desrochers (Westford, Mass.) was the only other Ram in double figures with 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting from behind the arc.
• Seniors Emily Velozo (Tewksbury, Mass.) and Julia Sanborn (Dracut, Mass.) chipped in with nine points apiece, while freshman Flannery O'Connor (Amesbury, Mass.) finished with eight.
• The Hawks were led by 13 points, seven rebounds and two steals from senior Cassidy Harrison.
• Freshman Natasha Pacheco finished the game just shy of a double double with nine points and a team-high 11 rebounds, while senior Sarah Ware finished the game with seven points.
• Becker struggled from the floor in the first two quarters connecting on just 3-of-27 from the floor (11%), while committing 11 turnovers.  The Hawks were held scoreless for the final 5:13 of the first quarter and the first 3:51 of the second quarter. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Both teams started slowly on the offensive end with Becker leading 5-4 four minutes into first quarter. The Hawks connected on just 2-of-8 to start the game, while the Rams hit 2-of-6 with five turnovers.
• A pair of Cassidy Harrison free throws with 5:13 on the clock gave Becker a 7-4 lead, but the Rams outscored Becker 7-0 over the final five minutes to lead 11-7 after one.  A three from Desrochers gave the Rams their first lead of the game (9-7) and a put back from freshman Gwendolyn Carpenter (Ashley Falls, Mass.) pushed the lead to four.
• The Rams opened the second quarter with an 11-0 run taking a 22-7 lead.  Sanborn tallied seven points for the Rams on the run.
• A three by Ware ended the Hawks scoring drought and cut the gap to 22-10 with 6:09 on the clock in the second.
• The Rams extended the lead to as many as 19 late in the second quarter (32-13) on a layup from Haidul with 1:22 on the clock before taking a 32-15 lead into the locker room.
• The Rams continued to build on the lead in the third quarter leading by as many as 36 on a three by Desrochers.
