Women’s Basketball Defeats Salem; 77-54

Salem, Mass.— Framingham State sophomore Abbey Battaini (Haverhill, Mass.) scored a career-high 20 points off the bench en route to a 77-54 win over Salem State in MASCAC action Saturday afternoon Battaini was 6-of-10 from long range including four-off-five in the first quarter.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Early in the first quarter Framingham State struggled from the floor opening up the game just 1-for-8 from the field. As the quarter progressed the Rams settled in with help from the hot-handed Battaini off the bench. The Rams took a 17-16 at the end of the first quarter.
  • The visiting Rams scored the first five points of the second quarter and rode Mary Kate O'Day's (Berlin, Mass.) ten second quarter points to a 39-32 halftime lead.
  • The Rams continued to stretch their lead in the second half shooting near 50% from the floor and long range and led by as much as 25 late in the game.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Battaini led all scorers with 20, while O'Day finished with 17 and senior Tiphani Harris (Revere, Mass.) added 10 points. Freshman Liana Cunningham (Qunicy, Mass.) scored four points with five board, three swipes and a game-best nine assists.
  • For the Vikings, Kia Fernandes (Wareham, Mass.) scored 13 points (FG 5-9) and grabbed 11 rebounds. Tyra Scott (Methuen, Mass.) put up 16 points (8-17).
  • The Rams forced 23 Vikings turnovers leading to 21 points by FSU.
