Women’s Basketball Clipped by St. Joe’s

Milton, Mass.—The St Joe's Monks jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as they defeated the Framingham State women's basketball team in the Curry College Invitational Title Game by a score of 72-59.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • The Monks received a game-high 22 points fro Kelsi McNamara while Julia Champagne added 17 points. Emily Benway nearly missed a double double with 10 points and a team-best eights boards. 
  • The Rams received a pair of 18-point performances from juniors Emily Velozo (Tewksbury, Mass.) and Mary Kate O'Day (Berlin, Mass.). 
  • Tiphani Harris (Revere, Mass.) added seven points and a game-best ten boards. 
  • The Monks shot 39% (25-of-64) from the floor and were 5-for-22 from long range.
  • The Rams converted on 42% (22-of-52) from the field and were 4-of-19 from beyond the arc. 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • A McNamara layup less than four minutes into the game put the Monks up 13-5 and they would carry that advantage through the end of the 1st
  • An O'Day trey to open the second quarter would cut the Rams deficit to four but the Monks went on an 11-to-2 run to regain a commanding lead. 
  • St. Joe's would push their lead to as much as 18 in the 3rdbefore an O'Day layup cut the lead to nine. 
  • O'Day made both of her free throws with just over two minutes to play to cut the Monks lead to 66-59 but St. Joe's would go 6-for-6 from the line in the final minutes to seal the victory.
