Pair of Runs Propels Women’s Basketball to 79-47 Victory over Dean College

Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University women's basketball team used a strong third quarter to pull away as the Rams defeated Dean College 79-47 this evening in non-conference action at the Athletic Center.

With the win, the Rams improve to 13-3 on the year, while the Bulldogs fall to 12-5 on the season.

The Rams were paced by 14 points on 7-of-8 from the floor, seven rebounds and three blocks from senior Alycia Rackliffe (Feeding Hills, Mass.).  Junior Quinn O'Connell (Sterling, Mass.) chipped in 12 points off the bench, while classmate Raegan Mulherin (Baldwinville, Mass.) added 11.  Junior Lauren Donahue (Attleboro, Mass.) narrowly missed a double double with nine points and 11 assists.

The Bulldogs were led by 15 points sophomore guard Iindia Pina (Carver, Mass.). Pina added six rebounds and five steals, while sophomore Denisha Gardener (Norwalk, Conn.) added 12 points including 8-of-12 from the line.

The Rams used a pair of runs to take control of the game.  They closed the second quarter with a 15-4 spurt featuring seven points from O'Connell to take a 35-18 lead into the locker room.  The Rams came out of the break with a 17-2 run that put the game out of reach.

The Rams shot 55% from the floor in the game (31-56), while the Bulldogs connected on just 25% of their offering (14-56).  The Rams held a decisive edge in points in the paint for the game, 42-18, in addition to outrebounding the visitors.

The Rams are back in action Saturday afternoon at home when they host Worcester State in a MASCAC clash beginning at 3 p.m., while Bulldogs host Maine Augusta on Thursday night at 5 p.m.
