Strong Start Leads Women’s Basketball to 84-44 Win over Mount Ida

Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University women's basketball team opened the game with a 14-0 run and never looked back as the Rams defeated Mount Ida College 84-44 in non-conference action at the Athletic Center.

With the win, the Rams improve to 5-0 on the young season, while Mount Ida evens their mark at 2-2. 

The Rams opened the game with a 14-0 spurt over the opening five minutes of the contest. During the stretch, the Rams connected on 6-of-9 offerings form the floor and received six points from senior Monta Connolly (Lynn, Mass.), while in contrast the Mustangs started 0-for-6 from the field with three turnovers. 

The Mustangs first bucket was a jumper by Brittany Crosby (Riverside, RI) with 4:16 left in the opening quarter.

The Rams maintained a double digit advantage throughout the game and extended the lead to as many as 40 points.  Framingham State capitalized on 31 Mustang turnovers in the game which led to 27 points and held a decisive 50-18 edge in points in the paint.

Senior Alycia Rackliffe (Feeding Hills, Mass.) paced the Rams with a double double effort of 16 points on 8-of-11 from the field and 16 rebounds with four steals and four blocks.  Junior Raegan Mulherin (Baldwinville, Mass.) also added 16 points and filled the stat sheet with four rebounds, four assists and four steals.  Freshman Mary Kate O'Day (Berlin, Mass.) added 13 points, four rebounds and four steals off the bench for the Rams.

The Mustangs were led by 10 points and 13 rebounds, including seven on the offensive glass, from senior Angelique Martinez (Taunton, Mass.).  Martinez entered the game needing just 14 points to reach the 1,000 point mark for her career, but finished just shy of the milestone.  Freshman Alisa Benson (Middletown, RI) was the only other Mustang to reach double figures with 10 points.

The Rams are back in action Saturday afternoon when they travel to Suffolk University at 1 p.m., while the Mustangs host Salem State on Thursday night at 6 p.m.
