Connolly Named MVP of CWP Tournament as Women's Basketball Defeats Wheaton 87-63

Norton, Mass. – Behind 16 points from senior Monta Connolly, the Framingham University women's basketball team defeated Wheaton College 87-63 this afternoon in the championship game of the CWP '95 Memorial Tip-Off Tournament at Emerson Gymnasium.

With the win, the Rams improve to 3-0 on the year, while Wheaton evens their record at 1-1.

Connolly was named the tournament's most valuable player after scoring 16 points with eight rebounds, four assists and seven steals in the championship game.  Classmate Alycia Rackliffe earned All-Tournament honors after scoring 19 points on 9-of-10 from the floor with six boards and five blocks.

Junior Raegan Mulherin added 17 points including shooting 4-of-11 from behind the arc with nine assists and three steals.  Junior Lauren Donahue posted the game's only double double with 13 points and 10 assists, while classmate Quinn O'Connell added 10 points off the bench.

The Rams shot 54% from the field in the game (37-69) including 46% from behind the arc.

Leading 12-10 midway through the first quarter, the Rams closed the frame with a 13-1 run to take control of the game.  The spurt featured six points from Rackliffe and a three from freshman Mary Kate O'Day as time expired in the period.

The Rams are back in action at home on Tuesday night at 6 p.m. when they host Lasell College.
