Women’s Basketball Powers Through Newbury; 94-45

Norton, Mass.- The Framingham State women's basketball team used double-digit scoring from four different players to charge to a 94-45 win over Newbury College in the opening round of the CWP '95 Memorial Tip-Off Tournament hosted by Wheaton College on Friday evening. With the win the Rams improve to 2-0 while the Night Hawks fall to 0-1.

The Rams were lead by juniors Raegan Mulherin (Baldwinville, Mass.) and Quinn O'Connell (Sterling, Mass.) each scoring 14 points and a combined 6-for-9 from downtown. Senior Alycia Rackliffe (Feeding Hills, Mass.) added twelve points and eight rebounds going a perfect 6-for-6 from the floor while freshman Mary Kate O'Day (Berlin, Mass.) scored ten points and blocking two shots.

The Night Hawks received double-digit scoring from Destiny Spears and Savannah Olsen with 11 points each.

Framingham State got off to a hot start scoring the games first six points. After back-and-forth play through most of the first frame a Taylor trey cut the Rams lead to two at 19-17 in the final minute of the 1st period. The Rams then bunkered down and broke off a 21-0 run to take a commanding 40-17 lead and they would not look back.

The Rams shot 56.7% from the floor and 40% from long range. Newbury was 31.6% shooting and 14.3% from downtown.

The Rams will face host Wheaton College in the CWP Memorial Championship Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
