Women’s Basketball Tops MCLA; 53-40

Framingham, Mass.- The Framingham State women's basketball team defeated the visiting MCLA Trailblazers 53-40 in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action Saturday afternoon in Framingham.

With the victory, the Rams move to 10-4 (3-1 MASCAC) and the Trailblazers fall to 9-6 (1-3 MASCAC).

The Rams were paced offensively by junior Monta Connolly (Lynn, Mass.) who registered a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Junior Alycia Rackliffe (Feeding Hills, Mass.) also picked up a double-double scoring 13 points and 12 rebounds and added 7 blocks. Sophomore Quinn O'Connell (Sterling, Mass.) picked up 10 points off the bench.

The Trailblazers were led by Karin Mattera (Johsnton, RI) with 12 points and Courtney McLaughlin (Pittsfield, Mass.) with 10 points. Kayla Hotaling (Ravena, NY) registered a game-high 16 rebounds.

The Rams came out of the gate hot leading 16-8 after one period and extending their lead to 32-11 a little over halfway through the second quarter. The Trailblazers started chipping away and a McLaughlin basket in the final minute of the third period cut the Rams lead to nine at 43-34.

The hosts countered with a Connolly layup before the quarter ended and rode a 10-0 run for the next 8 minutes to seal the victory.

The visitors struggled from the floor shooting only 20.8 percent (15-of-72) and only 9 percent from long range (2-of-22). The Rams scored from the floor at a 31.3 percent clip (21-for-67) and did not convert a three point shot on the day (0-for-9).

The Rams return to the court in for non-conference action at Lasell Thursday, January 21st at 7p.m. The Trailblazers host Fitchburg State in MASCAC action on Wednesday, January 20th with a 5:30p.m. tip-off.
