Women’s Basketball Cruises to 82-63 Victory over Suffolk
Framingham, Mass. – Sophomore Quinn O'Connell (Sterling, Mass.) provided a spark off the bench with 14 points and four steals as the Framingham State University women's basketball team cruised to an 82-63 victory over Suffolk University in non-conference action this afternoon at the Athletic Center.
With the win the Black and Gold Rams avenge a 68-54 loss to Suffolk on the opening weekend of the season and improve to 5-2 on the year. Suffolk falls to 4-3 with the loss.
Junior Sarah Palace (Auburn, Mass.) and sophomore Raegan Mulherin (Baldwinville, Mass.) paced the Rams with 15 points apiece, while O'Connell connected on a pair of shots from long range for her 14 points and filled the stat sheet with four steals and two assists. Juniors Alycia Rackliffe (Feeding Hills, Mass.) and Monta Connolly (Lynn, Mass.) narrowly missed double doubles. Rackliffe chipped in with 13 points and nine boards, while Connolly tallied eight points and corralled a team-best 11 boards. Freshman Tiphani Harris (Revere, Mass.) connected on 4-of-6 from the floor for 10 points and five boards.
Suffolk was led by 16 points from senior Alessandra Quadri (Sudbury, Mass.). Quadri struggled from the floor connecting on just 5-of-17, but recorded three steals, two assists and three boards. Junior Georgia Bourikas (Hull, Mass.) added 14 points and four rebounds for the Boston Rams, while Senior Chelsea Campellone (Fall River, Mass.) tallied 13 points and eight rebounds off the bench.
The Rams led from the start of the contest jumping out to an 18-8 lead before closing the first quarter leading 24-8 thanks to seven points from Palace. The Rams pushed the lead to 20 in the opening minutes of the second quarter and extended it to as many as 30 in the fourth quarter as they never led by less than 20 until the final minute of the game.
The Rams are back in action next Tuesday night when they travel to MIT at 7 p.m., while Suffolk hosts Clark University on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
