Women’s Basketball Falls to Worcester State

Framingham, Mass.- Senior Bianca Langford (Worcester/Holy Name) scored 14 points and collected a game high 11 rebounds off the bench to lead the Lancers past Framingham State University on Thursday night in MASCAC action. The contest was originally scheduled for Tuesday, January 27th but was postponed because of weather.

With the win the Lancers push to 12-7 and the Rams fall to 11-6. Both teams are now 3-3 in the league.

Julie Frankian (Millbury) led Worcester State with 15 points while collecting 8 rebounds. Kiesha Jones (Worcester/Doherty) and Shannen El-Qasem (Rutland/Wachusett) both scored 11 points and Nani Perez (Worcester/Holy Name) scored 7 points and collected a game high 10 assists.

Alycia Rackliffe (Feeding Hills/Agwam) had a game high 20 points and 5 blocks. Sarah Palace (Auburn) added 12 points while Payton Bruegger (Millbury) collected a  team high 7 rebounds.

The Lancers took the lead early in the first half going up 16-8 after a Franklin trey. The Rams fought back and took the lead with just under two minutes to play in the period when Rackliffe hit a jumper to give the Rams a 21-20 lead. The Lancers answered with a Franklin basket from long range to regain the lead. A Rackliffe free throw with 16 seconds remaining put the Rams to within one at 23-22. Perez drove down the court hit a basket with 5 seconds to go, Franklin then stole the Rams inbound pass and hit a layup as time expired to send the Lancers to half up 27-22.

A Bianca Langford layup gave the Lancers a ten point cushion less than 3 minutes into the second half. Two Nicole Bostic (Easton/Oliver Ames) free throws five minutes into the period put the Rams within 4 points and that's as close as the Rams would get.

Worcester State shot 44 percent from the floor including 16-of-32 (50 percent) in the second half.  The Rams were just 18-of-61 (30 percent) from the field and were 2-for-13 (15 percent) from downtown.

The Rams will travel to Westfield State for MASCAC action on Saturday, January 31st. The Lancers return to action next Tuesday when they travel to Nichols for non-conference action.
