Women’s Basketball Loses Heartbreaker vs. WNE

Framingham, MA- The Framingham State University women's basketball team suffered a heart-breaking 66-63 loss at the hands of Western New England Saturday afternoon at the athletic & recreation center at Framingham State.

With the win the Golden Bears improve to 4-1 and the Rams even out at 2-2.

The Rams led entering the intermission by a score of 34-30 but they found themselves trailing 59-45 after a Emily Anderson (Rocky Hill, CT) three pointer with just over seven minutes to play. The Rams then went on an 18-5 run capped off by two Monta Connolly (Lynn, Mass.) baskets to cut the Golden Bears lead to 64-63 with just under a minute to play. The Rams forced a turnover but lost possession after some confusion on the court.

The Rams fouled and Dorothy O'Neil (Staten Island, NY) made her two free throws with 23 seconds remaining to extend the lead to three. The Rams sent a couple shots from downtown to try to tie the score but could not sink one.

O'Neil finished with 19 points for the Golden Bears while Chelsea Vuis (Berlin, CT) registered a double-double with 13 points and 10 boards.

Sophomore Alycia Rackliffe (Feeding Hills, Mass.) scored a team high 17 points followed by Connolly with 15.

The Rams shot 34.2% from the floor and only 11.8% from downtown. WNE shot 31.3% from the floor and 23.8% from long range.

The Rams return to action on Tuesday, November 25th when they travel to Curry for a non-conference battle, the Golden Bears host Lasell on the same day.
