Fitchburg, Mass.  – The Framingham State University women's basketball team picked up their first conference victory of the season this afternoon with a 70-63 victory over Fitchburg State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) women's basketball match-up.

Framingham State had three players in double-figures as senior Kia Minor (Edgartown, Mass.) led all scorers with a double double of 21 points and 13 boards. Minor was joined by junior Kristen Hoffman (Foxboro, Mass.) who added 16 points on 5-of-11 shooting, while senior Madeleine Park (Blue Hill, Maine) notched 14 points, including a pair of shots from beyond the arc.

Fitchburg State received a strong effort from sophomore Kristen Enright (Westminster, Mass.) who posted a double double effort with a team-high 12 points and 13 rebounds, while junior Amy Fahey (Wilmington, Mass.) added 11 points and a pair of blocks. Junior Laura Cote (Ashby, Mass.) chipped in with ten points and four steals.

Fitchburg State came out gunning in the first half, posting a 14-6 advantage by the 12:10 mark with key buckets from freshman Tori Cyrus (Everett, Mass.), sophomore Megan Wodzinski (Littleton, Mass.) and Fahey, but Framingham State stormed back tacking a seven point lead into the break (38-31). Minor led the comeback trail for the Rams, totaling 12 points in the half, while Park and Hoffman added a pair of baskets from beyond the arc.

In the second half, Framingham State kept its momentum going, posting a 14 point advantage with a three from Margo McCarthy (Southampton, Mass.) and consecutive baskets from Park. The Rams increased their lead to as many as 16 with a Park lay-up at the 11:17 mark, but the Falcons inched back, using a 16-6 run to come within three (66-63). Five straight points from Cote and a pair of lay-ups from Enright led the charge, but four straight points to close out the game clinched Framingham State's first conference victory.

For the contest, the Falcons shot 35.8% from the floor, while the Rams finished 26-of-67 (38.8%) from the floor, including 6-of-22 from long-range. The Falcons dominated the glass, holding a 56-39 advantage, but a 33-22 margin in turnovers put Fitchburg State behind the eight ball for much of the contest.

Fitchburg State (7-7, 0-2 MASCAC) will be back in action on Tuesday as it host Worcester State at 5:30 p.m. Framingham State (8-5, 1-2 MASCAC) will be back in action on Tuesday as it hosts Salem State at 6 p.m.
