Minor Leads Women's Basketball to 66-54 Win Over Salem State

Salem, Mass. – Sophomore forward Kia Minor (Edgartown, Mass.) racked up a double double as she scored a game-high 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Framingham State to a 66-54 victory over Salem State on Tuesday night at James Twohig Gymnasium.

The Rams, who last defeated the Vikings during the 1974-75 season, improve their season record to 11-10 overall and 3-5 in conference, while the Lady Vikings drop their 12th straight game to fall to 3-17 on the year and 0-7 in the MASCAC.

Minor, who had eight points and six boards in the first half, helped Framingham State build a 28-23 lead at the intermission despite committing 18 turnovers. Breanna Comeau (Amesbury, Mass.) scored eight first-half points and grabbed four offensive rebounds for the Vikings, who shot just 29.6 percent from the field as a team including a dismal 3-15 from beyond the arc.

Framingham State jumped out to an 11-point lead early in the second-half and the Lady Vikings could not recover as they shot just 1-of-12 from three-point range. The Vikings lone three-pointer in the second half cut the Rams lead to six with almost 12 minutes remaining in the game, but that was as close as the Lady Vikings come.

Framingham junior forward Emily Clark (Melrose, Mass.), who finished with 12 points and four rebounds, hit two free throws to give the Rams their largest lead of the second half (14 points) with 6:53 remaining in the game. Salem State was not able to pull any closer than 12 as the two teams traded baskets the rest of the game.

SSU's Madeleine Park (Blue Hill, ME) shared game-high honors with Minor as she led the Lady Vikings with 20 points due including a perfect 8-8 at the free throw line. Sandra Lanier (Groton, Mass.) added 11 points in 25 minutes off of the bench.
