Suffolk Holds Off Late Surge by Women's Basketball for 80-70 Win

Boston, Mass. – Sophomore Jacqueline Vienneau (Salem, N.H.) tied a career-high with 20 points as the Suffolk University Rams (9-6) rolled to an 80-70 victory over the Framingham State University Rams (9-9). The win now extends the Suffolk Rams home winning streak to six games.

Vienneau just missed a double-double as the sophomore guard grabbed eight rebounds to go along with five assists in the contest.

Sophomore forward Kia Minor (Edgartown, Mass.) and freshman guard Cassie Liston (Stoneham, Mass.) scored 15 points apice to lead Framingham State. Minor finished the game recording her fifth double-double of the season as she led all rebounders with a game-high 15.

With a seven point lead at 65-58 with two minutes remaining, Suffolk would go 15-for-20 from the free-throw, including a span of 12 makes in a row to put away the visitors.

Freshman Jennifer Ruys (Wallingford, Conn.) finished the game with 17 points and six rebounds, while junior Mary Garon (Auburn, N.H.) had 12 points and sophomores Dominique Demar (Colchester, Conn.) and Lindsey Rogers (Gloucester, Mass.) each had 11 points as Suffolk finished with five players reaching double-digit.

A back and forth first half would see nine lead changes as both teams came out shooting firing on all cylinders. Suffolk shot 46.7 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes, connecting on 6-of-13 shots from beyond the arc to build a 36-31 lead going into the break.

Suffolk would build their lead to its largest margin at 16 points when Vienneau connected on one of her four treys in the game with ten minutes remaining to make it 57-41.

Framingham State would cut the lead down to six points with two and a half minutes remaining as they capitalized on their full court pressure, but Suffolk's clutch free-throw shooting secured the win.

Junior forward Emily Clark (Melrose, Mass.) had four blocked shots in the game for the visitors, and scored 10 points, while freshman Kristen Hoffman (Foxboro, Mass.) added 13 points for the visiting Rams.

Framingham State will be back in action on Saturday as they host Fitchburg State University in MASCAC action at 1:00 p.m. Suffolk will host Mount Ida College in GNAC action this Thursday evening at the Regan Gymnasium at 7 p.m.
