MCLA Downs Women's Basketball 65-53

North Adams, Mass. - MCLA junior forward Jen Wehner's 27 points and 21 rebounds led the Trailblazer women past visiting Framingham State University 65-53 in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) women's basketball action in the Amsler Campus Center this evening.  With the win, MCLA is now 10-5 overall, 2-1 in the league while the Rams fall to 9-7 overall, 1-3 in the MASCAC.

Wehner took control in the second half as she tallied 21 of her 27 and grabbed 13 boards after intermission.  She helped MCLA hold a commanding edge on the glass as the Trailblazers outrebounded the Rams 63-41 for the game.

Framingham led at the half 27-23 and jumped out to their largest lead of the night at 34-27 with 15:56 to play.  MCLA would use a 7-0 run to tie the game midway through the second half.  After trading hoops, Framingham took a 39-38 edge before the Trailblazers used a 14-2 run to take command of the game with a 52-41 lead.  The Rams would pull within nine, but would get no closer as the Trailblazers held on for the victory. 

A tightly contested opening half saw MCLA jump out to an early 12-7 lead following a Lucy Tremblay 3-pointer.  The Rams would battle back and take their first lead of the night at 17-16 on an Emily Clark (Melrose, Mass.)  layup with 5:33 remaining in the stanza.  Framingham State would go on to lead by as many as five before settling for a 27-23 lead at the break. Clark had a solid opening half garnering 13 of the Rams 27 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the field.

Wehner shot 9-for-18 from the floor for the game including 9-of-12 from the free throw line to account for her 27 points to go along with four blocks.  Fellow junior Courtney Terzi added 12 points and six rebounds, while Alie Dobrovolc finished just shy of a double double with nine points and 10 boards.

The Rams were led by Clark who finished with a team-high 19 points.  Freshmen guard Kristen Hoffman (Foxboro, Mass.) added 15 points while sophomore forward Kia Minor (Edgartown, Mass.) grabbed 15 rebounds including seven on the offensive glass. 

Both team s return to MASCAC action on Saturday as the Trailblazers host Fitchburg State at 1 p.m., and the Rams travel to Westfield State also at 1 p.m.
