UMass Boston Holds Off Women's Basketball for 43-40 Win

Framingham, Mass. - Elizabeth Dow's (Marshfield, MA) basket with 2:25 left proved to be the difference as UMass Boston defeated host Framingham State 43-40 in a non-conference women's basketball matchup played on Tuesday evening.  With the win, the Beacons move to 9-2 on the season while FSU is now 6-4.

The visitors never trailed in the second half until Framingham's Kia Minor (Edgertown, MA) drained a 3-pointer to beat the shot clock with just over three minutes remaining to put the Rams up 40-39.  After Dow's heroics, the Beacons forced two missed Ram shots and three turnovers, and dodged a pair of missed free throws before Elisa Ogawa (Yamanashi, Japan) canned a layup at the buzzer to secure the 3-point win.

Kendra Mosley (Indian Head, IN) led UMass Boston with 12 points while Colleen Hooper (Mansfield, MA) added 11.  Dow and Cammy Brown (Malden, MA) both grabbed seven rebounds for the Beacons, who won despite shooting just 31% from the floor and missing 8-of-9 free throws on the night.

Emily Clark (Melrose, MA) paced all players with 13 points and nine rebounds for the Rams.  Minor added eight points and six boards while Nicole McConaghy (Medford, MA) contributed a game-high six assists to go along with five rebounds.

Both teams are off until January.   Framingham State heads to Johnson & Wales on Tuesday, January 4th at 7pm while UMass Boston entertains Eastern Connecticut at 1pm on Saturday, January 8th.
