Connolly and Liston Lead Women's Basketball Past John Jay

Weston, Mass. – Powered by freshmen Amy Connolly (Milton, Mass.) and Cassie Liston (Stoneham, Mass.), who combined for 27 points, the Framingham State University women's basketball team defeated John Jay 74-50 this afternoon in the consolation game of the Park Lodge Tournament hosted by Regis College.  With the win, the Rams improve to 6-3 on the season, while the Bloodhounds fall to 2-5. 

Connolly led five Rams in double figures with a game-high 14 points on 7 of 12 shooting from the floor to go along with six rebounds and two assists.  Liston chipped in a career-high 13 points, five boards and four steals.  Senior guard Nicole McConaghy (Medford, Mass.) was 2 of 3 from behind the arc en route to her 12 points, while Nicole Meyer (North Attleboro, Mass.) and Emily Clark (Melrose, Mass.) added 11 and 10 points respectively.  Sophomore forward Michelle Hagerty (Somerville, Mass.) chipped in eight points, a team-high eight boards and five assists.

The Rams started the game on fire shooting 59.5% (22-37) from the floor in the first half as they opened up a 47-11 lead at the break.  John Jay struggled from the floor in the opening stanza connecting on just 13.3% of their offerings (4-30).

The Rams cooled off in the second half shooting only 30.3% percent from the floor, while the Bloodhounds heated up a bit shooting 46.7% from the floor.  The Rams were able to maintain the advantage that they had built in the first half and cruised to the win shooting 45.7% from the floor for the game and holding a 51-34 advantage on the boards.    

The Rams return to action on Tuesday as they host UMass Boston at 6 p.m.
