Women's Basketball Defeated by St. Lawrence in Opening Round of Park Lodge Tournament

Weston, Mass. - St. Lawrence University earned a spot in the Park Lodge Tournament championship game with Regis College on Sunday, after defeating Framingham State University 72-59 on Saturday night in one first round match up. St. Lawrence improves to 6-2 on the year, while Framingham State falls to 5-3.
 
Kelly Legg (Fairport, NY) scored a game-high 22 points, was perfect from the free-throw line, and shot 66.7% (8-of-12) from the field. Joining Legg in double digits was Casey Capello (Hanover, Mass.) who added 12 points.
 
Framingham State had four players reach double figures with junior forward Emily Clark (Melrose, Mass.) leading the way.  Clark picked up 13 points, while sophomore Kia Minor (Edgartown, Mass.) chipped in 11 points.  Freshman center Amy Connolly (Milton, Mass.) and senior Nicole McConaghy (Medford, Mass.) contributed 10 points apiece.  McConaghy was two rebounds short of the games only double-double as she grabbed eight boards.
 
Framingham State shot better than 47 percent from the field on the game and their defense held St. Lawrence to just 38.9% (21-for-54) shooting from the floor.
 
Framingham State made just one three-pointer in the game, while St. Lawrence converted nine of its attempts. Framingham State also won the rebounding battle, 34-29, but the Saints held the edge in turnovers committing just 19 while forcing the Rams to commit 25.   
Both teams will return to the court Sunday for day two of the Park Lodge Tournament. Framingham State and John Jay will play in the consolation game at 1:00 p.m., while St. Lawrence will play Regis College at 3:00 p.m. in the championship game.
