Women’s Basketball Cruises to 59-42 Win Over Lasell

Framingham, Mass. — The Framingham State University women's basketball team extended their current winning streak to five games after a 59-42 victory over Lasell College this afternoon in Framingham. With the win, the Rams improve to 5-1 on the year, while the Lasers are still in search of their first win at 0-6.            

Junior forward Emily Clark (Melrose, Mass.) was one rebound shy of a double double as she led the Rams with a team-high 12 points on 5 of 11 shooting from the floor with nine boards.  Freshman center Amy Connolly (Milton, Mass.) picked up her second double double of the season with 10 points and a team-high 11 rebounds.  Senior Jill Johnson (Mansfield, Mass.) chipped in 10 points, while guard Nicole McConaghy added nine and four assists.

The Lasers were led by senior guard Katie Farr (Rindge, NH) who scored a game-high 13 points including 3 of 8 from behind the arc.  Freshman Kayla Vincelette (Westport, Mass.) added 11 points, while sophomore Ashley Slattery (Weymouth, Mass.) added ten and 13 rebounds.

Trailing 15-14 with 9:37 left in the first half, the Rams went on a 13-4 run to take a 28-18 lead.  Lasell pulled back within eight just before the half on a pair of free throws by Slattery that made the score 28-20 in favor of the Rams at the break.

Framingham State shot 46% from the floor in the second half as they maintained their lead thru the half and extended it to as many as 22 points.  The Rams defense forced 21 Lasell turnovers in the game which they converted into 19 points, while the Lasers scored only nine points off the Rams 13 turnovers.  Powered by Clark and Connolly in the post, Framingham State held a 30-12 scoring advantage in the paint.

The Rams return to action on Tuesday as they travel to Curry College at 7 p.m., while the Lasers return to action on Thursday at Gordon College at 7 p.m.
