Women’s Basketball Extends Current Streak to Four with 54-37 Win over Eastern Nazarene

Framingham, Mass. — The Framingham State University women's basketball team won their fourth in a row after defeating the Eastern Nazarene College Lions 54-37 in non-conference action this evening in Framingham. With the win, the Rams improve to 4-1 on the season, while the Lions fall to 1-7.              

Sophomore forward Kia Minor (Edgartown, Mass.) led four Rams in double figures with a game-high 14 points on 6 of 8 shooting (75%) from the floor to go along with five boards.  Senior forward Jill Johnson (Mansfield, Mass.) has a solid all around game with 12 points, including 2 of 3 from behind the arc, five assists and four rebounds.  Junior forward Emily Clark (Melrose, Mass.) and freshman center Amy Connolly (Milton, Mass.) chipped in 10 points apiece.  Connolly grabbed a team-high six boards to go along with her 10, while senior guard Nicole McConaghy (Medford, Mass.) added four points, five boards and a six steals.

The Lions were led by sophomore center Shardae Brown (Waterbury, Conn.) who picked up a team-high 13 points on 5 of 11 shooting from the floor.  Freshman Julianne Atwater (Weymouth, Mass.) added nine points, while sophomore Alexis Malloy (Greenbelt, MD) added eight and six boards.

Leading 21-16 with 3:40 remaining in the first half, the Rams closed the frame with a 6-0 run fueled by four points from Clark to take a 27-16 lead at the break.  They opened the second half with a 16-8 run over to take their largest lead of the game, 43-24 with 14:48 left in contest.  The Rams maintained a double digit lead for the remainder of the game as they cruised to the victory.

The Rams shot 51.2% (22-43) from the floor for the game, while the Lions shot only 27.1% (13-48) and just 24% in the first half.  Framingham State's inside presence was the difference in the game as the Rams outscored the Lions 28-12 in the paint for the game and held a 38-26 advantage on the glass.

The Rams return to action on Saturday as they host Lasell at 1 p.m., while the Lions host Fitchburg State on Saturday at 7 p.m.
