Women's Basketball Holds Off Gordon for 46-41 WIn

Wenham, Mass. – The duo of freshman forward Amy Connolly (Milton, Mass.) and sophomore guard Nicole Meyer (North Attleboro, Mass.) combined for 26 points as the Framingham State University women's basketball team defeated Gordon College 46-41 on the road tonight in non-conference action. With the win the Rams improve to 3-1 on the year, while the loss drops Gordon to 1-4.

Meyer led the Rams with a team-high 14 points on 5 of 9 shooting from the floor including 3 of 4 from behind the arc.  Connolly shot 50% from the floor in the game (5-10) en route to her 12 points and she was one rebound away from a double double as she grabbed nine boards.

With the game tied at 11-11 midway through the first half, sophomore forward Kia Minor (Edgartown, Mass.) scored on a traditional 3-point play and Meyer nailed a 3-pointer to put the Rams up 17-11 and give them a lead that they never relinquished.  The Rams led by as many as nine in the first half before a late bucket by Kirsten Weld brought Gordon to within 24-19 at the break.

Sara Schwanke scored a game-high 21 points for the Fighting Scots and had a big second half for Gordon, scoring 8 of her team's first 10 points after the break.  The Rams maintained the lead, helped in large part by their offensive rebounding, as they totaled 20 offensive boards, led by Minor's eight offensive (14 total rebounds).

Down 43-34 with 3:42 to play, the Scots put together a 7-2 run to pull within 45-41.   Down four, with possession of the ball under a minute, Gordon had several chances to draw closer but were unable to convert their opportunities.

Freshman forward Lauren Kranyak had 13 points and 10 rebounds for Gordon.  Framingham State created 25 Gordon turnovers which they converted into 14 points.

Gordon will host Newbury College at 5 p.m. on Thursday, while Framingham State will be home against Eastern Nazarene at 6 p.m. on Thursday.
