Bordini Leads Women's Basketball Past Nor'easters

Framingham, MA - Behind a career-high 32 points and nine rebounds from senior center Christina Bordini (Chelmsford, MA), the Framingham State College women's basketball team soundly defeated the visiting Nor'easters of the University of New England 75-61 at home tonight.  With the win, the Rams improve to 4-6 on the season, while the Nor'easters are now 7-7.

The Rams opened up a 23 point lead with 3:24 remaining in the first half as they were lights out from the field shooting and impressive 46.9% from the floor (15 of 32), while the Nor'easters were shooting only 8 of 25 (32.0%).  The Rams also forced the Nor'easters to commit 15 first half turnovers and converted those turnovers into 18 easy points.  Bordini led the Rams with 15 first half points on 8 of 11 from the field to go along with seven first half boards. The Rams as a team were 4 of 9 from three in the opening half including two key threes by junior Allie Hart (Somerset, MA) to spark a 28-8 run by the Rams in the first half.  Junior guard Brooke Weston (Dixfield, ME) sparked the Nor'easters with nine first half points and three assists in the first half.

Framingham State was able to maintain their comfortable lead thru most of the second half, but a late Nor'easter run cut the Rams lead to 10 with 40 seconds remaining on two threes by first year Lyndie Libby (Buxton, ME) and a lay up by Chelsey Meszaros (N. Clarendon, VT).  That was as close as the Nor'easters would get as the Rams hit their free throws down the stretch.

The Rams had their best shooting night of the season as they connected on 43.9% of their shots, while UNE shot only 30.8% from the floor.  Bordini finished the game for the Rams 13 of 21 from the floor for 32 points and nine rebounds. Sophomore Toya Chester (Leominster, MA) added 12 points, four assists and seven boards, while freshman Jill Johnson (Mansfield, MA) added 10 points, nine rebounds and four assists.

Libby and freshman Carrie Bunnell (Barnet, VT) had 15 points apiece for the Nor'easters, while Weston finished the night with 13 points.
