Softball Falls to Wentworth 6-5 and 5-1

Framingham, Mass. - The Framingham State University softball team suffered a pair of losses this afternoon falling to Wentworth 6-5 in game one and 5-1 in game of a non-conference doubleheader at Maple Street Field.  

THE BASICS:

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

Game 1: Wentworth 6, Framingham 5 

  • Wentworth grabbed a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on a two run homer and doubled the lead with a pair of runs in the top of the third. 

  • The Rams closed the gap to 4-3 in the bottom of the third. Makayla Rooney plated a run on a ground out and Kelsey McGuill and Marina Cadena added RBI singles. 

  • The Rams tied the game and took their first lead of the day with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth. Victoria Connelly plated the first run with an RBI single and Gwendolyn Carpenter plated the Rams' fifth run with a single. 

  • Wentworth responded, tying the game in the top of the seventh on an RBI triple and took the lead for good on a groundout. 

  • Caroline Hughes took the loss in the circle going 4.2 innings, allowing two earned runs on four hits. 

  • Carpenter finished the game 3-for-4 with a run scored and RBI, Eliza Carignan added two hits including a double and an RBI. 

Game 2: Wentworth 5, Framingham 1 

  • In game two, the game was scoreless until the sixth inning. The Rams Ally Moran held Wentworth off the board, while Julie Schriver kept the Rams off the board. 

  • In the sixth, Wentworth plated five runs including a two run double taking the lead for good. The Rams tallied their lone run of the game in the bottom of the inning on solo home run from McGuill. 

  • Moran took the loss in the circle going 5.1 innings, allowing four runs, two earned, on eight hits. 

  • Schriver earned the victory in the circle allowing just one earned run on two hits with four strikeouts.
