Softball Walks Off with Victory in Game One of Split with Emmanuel

Framingham, Mass. - The Framingham State University softball team tallied three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to walk off with a 4-3 victory in game one as the Rams split a pair of games with Emmanuel this afternoon at Maple Street Field. Emmanuel earned the victory in game two by a score of 8-2.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

Game 1: Framingham St. 4, Emmanuel 3 

  • The Saints grabbed a 3-0 lead after a pair of runs in the top of the first and one in the third. 

  • The Rams closed the gap to 3-1 in the bottom of the third on an RBI single to center from Brooke Grassia. 

  • The score remained 3-1 until the Rams final at bat of the game. Gwendolyn Carpenter led off the inning with a double and moved to third on a single from Makayla Rooney. After an out, Talia Duca delivered an RBI fielder's choice and Kelsey McGuill followed with a game winning two run homer. 

  • Ally Moran earned the victory going seven innings, allowing three earned runs on six hits with four strikeouts.  

  • Grassia finished the game with a pair hits, while Carpenter added two doubles and two runs scored. 

Game 2: Emmanuel 8, Framingham State 2 

  • Emmanuel grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Rams tied the game on an RBI single from Grassia. 

  • Emmanuel took the lead for good with a pair of runs in the third, single runs in the fourth and fifth and two more in the top of the sixth. 

  • The Rams added a run in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI double from Marina Cadena and the Saints added a final run in the top of the seventh to reach the final margin. 

  •  Caroline Hughes took the loss in the circle going seven innings allowing eight earned runs on 11 hits. 

  • Grassia finished the game 2-for-2 with an RBI and run scored, while Carpenter added a pair of hits including her third double of the day. 

 

UP NEXT: 

The Rams are back in action next Tuesday when they travel to Bridgewater State for a pair of conference games beginning at 3 p.m.
