Softball Closes Southern Swing with Losses to Endicott and Eau Claire

Clermont, Fla. - The Framingham State University softball team closed their spring break trip this afternoon falling 5-2 to Endicott College before being edged 8-7 in nine innings by Wis.-Eau Claire in non-conference action at the Spring Games this morning.   

THE BASICS:

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

Game 1: Endicott 5, Framingham State 2 

  • The Rams grabbed a 2-0 lead on a Kelsey McGuill two run double to right center in the bottom of the first inning. 

  • Endicott tied the game with a pair of runs in the top of the second and took the lead for good on a two run double in the top of the third. Endicott added a final run in the top of the fifth when they capitalized on a Ram error. 

  • Caroline Hughes took the loss in the circle going seven innings, allowing five runs, four earned on six hits with four strikeouts. 

  • McGuill finished the game 1-for-3 for the Rams with a double and two RBI, while Makayla Rooney went 1-for-3 with a run scored.  

Game 2: Framingham State  

  • Eau Claire got on the board first with a run in the bottom of the first and added two more in the bottom of the third to lead 3-0. 

  • The Rams tallied single runs in the top of the fourth and fifth on an RBI double from McGuill and on an RBI fielder's choice from Brooke Grassia with the bases loaded to close the gap to 3-2. 

  • Eau Claire added two more in the bottom of the sixth pushing the lead to 5-2. 

  • The Rams tied the game with three in the top of the seventh to force extra innings. Talia Duca plated a run with a single to center and McGuill followed with an RBI base hit. Marina Cadena reached on an error allowing the Rams final run of the inning to score. 

  • The Rams scored two in the top of the seventh when Shelby Roode reached on an error and RBI ground out from Grassia, but Eau Claire answered with two in the bottom of the inning, retying the score at 7-7. 

  • After the Rams were held scoreless in the top of the ninth, Eau Claire won the game on an RBI single in the bottom of the inning. 

  • Ally Moran started in the circle and did not factor in the decision. Moran went eight innings, allowing four runs, two earned, on 12 hits with 10 strikeouts. Hughes took the loss tossing the ninth allowing one hit. 

  • Brooke Grassia finished the game 1-for-5 with a run scored and two RBI, while McGuill finished the day 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Gwendolyn Carpenter added two hits, while Rooney scored twice.

The Rams are back in action next Thursday when they travel to Bridgewater State for a pair of conference games beginning at 3 p.m.
