Softball Downs Buffalo State 3-2 but Falls to Wis.-Whitewater

Clermont, Fla. - The Framingham State University softball team split a pair of games this morning falling to Wis.-Whitewater 5-1 before downing Buffalo State 3-2 in a non-conference action at the Spring Games.   

THE BASICS:

Framingham State 3, Buffalo State 2 

- Records: Framingham State (2-4), Wis.-Whitewater (3-0), Buffalo State (2-1) 

- Location: The Spring Games Clermont, Fla. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

Game 1: Whitewater 5, Framingham State 1 

  • Whitewater jumped on the board with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning. 

  • The Rams cut the deficit in half in the top of the second on an RBI single from Marina Cadena. 

  • After a weather delay, Whitewater added a single run in the bottom of the second and a pair in the fourth to reach the final margin. 

  • Caroline Hughes took the loss in the opener, going six innings, allowing five earned runs on eight hits with a strikeout. 

  • Brooke Grassia and Gwendolyn Carpenter each went 2-for-3 in the game. 

Game 2: Framingham State 3, Buffalo State 2 

  • The Rams got on the board first in the bottom of the second inning on two run single from Cadena. 

  • Buffalo State cut the deficit in half in the top of the fourth on an RBI double, but the Rams pushed the lead back to two in the bottom of the frame on an RBI ground out from Cali Leger. 

  • Buffalo State threatened in the top of the seventh but could only push one run across. 

  • Ally Moran earned the victory in the circle in game two going seven innings, allowing two earned runs on seven hits with four strikeouts. 

  • Kelsey McGuill finished the game 2-for-3 with two doubles and two runs scored, while Cadena finished the game 1-for-3 with two RBI.

The Rams are back in action on Tuesday when they face Smith and Brockport at the Spring Games.
