Softball Splits a Pair of Games with Plattsburg and River Falls

Clarmont, Fla. - The Framingham State University softball team split a pair of games this morning defeating Plattsburg 6-5 before falling 2-0 to Wis.-River Falls in a non-conference action at the Spring Games.   

THE BASICS: 

-Scores:  Framingham State 6, Plattsburg 5 
Wis.-River Falls 2, Framingham State  

- Records: Framingham State (1-3), Plattsburg (0-1), Wisc. -River Falls (6-2) 

- Location: The Spring Games Clermont, Fla. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

Game 1: Framingham State 6, Plattsburg 5 

  • Plattsburg got on the board first with a pair of runs in the top of the first, but the Rams tied the game with two of their own in the bottom of the inning. Talia Duca delivered an RBI double in the inning and Shelby Roode added an RBI single. 

  • The Rams took the lead, 3-2, on a Duca homer in the bottom of the third inning. 

  • A two run homerun from Eliza Kerrigan in the bottom of the fourth pushed the lead to 5-2. 

  • Plattsburg tied the game with three in the bottom of the fifth, but the Rams plated the eventual game winning run on a sacrifice fly from Duca in the bottom of the fifth. 

  • Duca finished the game 2-for-2 with a double, a homer, two runs scored and three RBI, while Roode, Carrigan and Gwendolyn Carpenter all recorded two hits in the game. 

  • Ally Moran earned the victory in the circle going seven innings, allowing five runs, four earned, on eight hits with three strikeouts. 

Game 2: Wis.-River Falls 2, Framingham State 0 

  • After two scoreless innings, River Falls plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the third taking the lead for good in the game. 

  • The Rams threatened in the top of the sixth when Brooke Grassia singled, was sacrificed to second and moved to third on a passed ball, but the Rams were unable to push the run across. 

  • The Rams loaded the bases in the top of the seventh but could get on the board. 

  • Caroline Hughes took the loss in the circle going six innings, allowing two unearned runs on two hits with five strikeouts.  

  • Maggie Wallin earned the victory allowing no runs on just five hits with 13 strikeouts. 

  • Grassia and Kelsey McGuill finished the game 2-for-3 apiece. .

The Rams are back in action on Monday when they face Wisconsin Whitewater and Buffalo State at the Spring Games.
