Softball Opens Season with Pair of Losses to Hartford

Framingham, Mass. - The Framingham State University softball team opened the 2024 season this afternoon and suffered a pair of losses to the University of Hartford by scores of 4-0 and 5-2 in a non-conference doubleheader at Maple Street Field.   

THE BASICS: 

-Scores:  Hartford 4, Framingham State 0 
Hartford 5, Framingham State 

- Records: Framingham State (0-2), Hartford (2-0)

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

Game 1: Hartford 4, Framingham State 0 

  • Hartford grabbed a 2-0 lead in the opener with a pair of runs in the top of the first. 

  • The Hawks added single runs in the top of the sixth and seventh to reach the final margin. 

  • Makayla Rooney and Talia Duca recorded hits for the Rams in the opener. 

  • Ally Moran took the loss in the circle going seven innings allowing four earned runs on ten hits with three strikeouts. 

Game 2: Hartford 5, Framingham State 2 

  • The Hawks plated three runs in the top of the first inning, but the Rams answered with a two run single from Duca in the bottom of the inning to close the gap to 3-2. 

  • Hartford added a single run in the top of third and another in the top of the sixth pushing the lead to 5-2. 

  • Caroline Hughes took the loss in the circle for the Rams in game two. Hughes went seven innings allowing five earned runs on 10 hits with five strikeouts. 

  • Rooney went 1-for-3 in game two with a run scored, while Duca also finished 1-for-3 with two RBI.
