Softball Sees Season Come to Close with Loss to Williams in NCAA Tournament

Salisbury, MD - The Framingham State University softball team saw their season come to a close this evening when they fell 9-4 to Williams College in an elimination game of the 2023 NCAA Division III Tournament at the Salisbury Regional.   

THE BASICS: 

-Scores:  Williams 9, Framingham State 4 

-Records: Framingham State (33-13), Williams (24-16)  

- Location: Knight Stadium Salisbury, MD   

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • After a scoreless first inning, Williams built a 3-0 lead with a run in the top of the second and two in the top of the fourth. The Ephs extended the lead to 8-0 with five in the top of sixth. 

  • The Rams got on the board with four in the bottom of the sixth. Gwendolyn Carpenter plated a run with a single to center and Kelsey McGuill added a three-run homerun to deep right. 

  • Sadie Leonard earned the victory in the circle for Williams, allowing no runs on two hits with 12 strikeouts. Madison Mok worked .1 inning in relief allowing four earned runs on three hits. 

  • Olyvia Mendonca took the loss for the Rams, going five innings, allowing four earned runs on eight hits with two walks. 

  • McGuill finished the game 1-for-3 with three RBI and a run scored, while Carpenter went 1-for-2 with a run scored, an RBI and a walk.
