Framingham, Mass. - The top seeded Framingham State University softball team received a two-run homerun from Gwendolyn Carpenter as the Rams defeated fourth seed Westfield State 8-0 in five innings in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Tournament Semifinal at Maple Street Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Rams got on the board in the bottom of the first inning on a sacrifice fly from Camille Desrochers.

The Rams extended the lead to 6-0 in the bottom of the third. Makayla Rooney singled home a run and Desrochers doubled home a pair setting up Carpenter's two run homer.

Carpenter reached on an error in the bottom of the fourth allowing a pair of runs to score to reach the eight run margin.

Ally Moran earned the win for the Rams going five innings, allowing no runs on three hits with four strikeouts.

Gianna Conte took the loss for the Owls going two innings and allowing five earned runs.

Brooke Grassia, Desrochers and Angelina Lynch finished with two hits apiece for the Rams, while Desrochers and Carpenter drove in three runs apiece.

With the victory, the Rams will face second seed Bridgewater State tomorrow at 10 a.m. and the Owls will face Worcester State at 12:30 p.m. in an elimination game.
