Top Seed Softball Advances in MASCAC Tournament with 8-0 Victory over Fourth Seed Westfield State

Framingham, Mass. - The top seeded Framingham State University softball team received a two-run homerun from Gwendolyn Carpenter as the Rams defeated fourth seed Westfield State 8-0 in five innings in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Tournament Semifinal at Maple Street Field.

-Scores:  Framingham State 8, Westfield State 0 (5 Innings) 

-Records: Framingham State (30-11), Westfield State (23-17)  

- Location: Maple Street Field Westfield, Mass.   

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The Rams got on the board in the bottom of the first inning on a sacrifice fly from Camille Desrochers. 

  • The Rams extended the lead to 6-0 in the bottom of the third. Makayla Rooney singled home a run and Desrochers doubled home a pair setting up Carpenter's two run homer. 

  • Carpenter reached on an error in the bottom of the fourth allowing a pair of runs to score to reach the eight run margin. 

  • Ally Moran earned the win for the Rams going five innings, allowing no runs on three hits with four strikeouts. 

  • Gianna Conte took the loss for the Owls going two innings and allowing five earned runs. 

  • Brooke Grassia, Desrochers and Angelina Lynch finished with two hits apiece for the Rams, while Desrochers and Carpenter drove in three runs apiece. 

 

UP NEXT: 

With the victory, the Rams will face second seed Bridgewater State tomorrow at 10 a.m. and the Owls will face Worcester State at 12:30 p.m. in an elimination game.
