Softball Falls to Bridgewater State in Game Three of MASCAC Championship Series

Framingham, Mass.  – The second seed Bridgewater State University Bears behind Tournament MVP Kelley Reichert defeated top seeded Framingham State University 10-5 in the deciding game of the 2021 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Softball Championship Series at Maple Street Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

MASCAC Championship Game 3 -

  • Reichert earned MVP honors after tossing a complete game in the circle to earn the victory and delivered a clutch two out two RBI base hit in a five run top of the sixth inning that put the Bears in position for the victory.
  • The Bears got on the board first in the top of the third on a two run single from Emma Healy.
  • The Rams took their first lead of the day in the bottom of the third after loading the bases with no outs thanks to an error and a misplayed bunt by the Bears. Camille Desrochers delivered an RBI fielder's choice and the Rams capitalized on two more Bear errors to take a 3-2 lead.
  • A three run homer from Janet Jolly in the top of the fourth put the Bears back on top 5-3.
  • The Rams cut the deficit to one in the bottom of the frame. Shannon Ward reached on an error and scored on an RBI single off the bat of Grace Swanson.
  • The Rams once again capitalized on Bear field miscues in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game on an RBI slow grounder from Ward.
  • The Bears retook the lead for good in the top of the sixth plating five runs including a pair on Reichert's single to right.
  • Reichert then retired the Rams in order in the seventh to secure the victory.  Reichert went seven innings allowing five unearned runs on five hits with a strikeout.
  • Shannon Ward took the loss for the Rams going two and a third allowing five earned runs.
