Softball Places Second in MASCAC Preseason Poll

Framingham, Mass.-After capturing a share of the 2019 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Regular Season and winning their third consecutive MASCAC Tournament Championship the Framingham State University softball team finished second in the 2020 MASCAC Softball Preseason Poll as voted on by the coaches from around the league.

The Rams gathered two of the possible seven first place votes and grabbed 42 points in the poll.

The 2019 Rams finished the season 12-2 in conference play winning a share of the MASCAC Regular Season Title for the second time in program history. The 2019 squad went on the win their third straight MASCAC Tournament Title and made the program's fourth trip to the NCAA Div. III Tournament.

The Rams return two-time All-Conference junior first baseman Grace Caughey (Mendon, Mass.) who hit .346 collecting 54 hits, including 14 doubles and two home runs with a league-leading 41 RBI and 35 runs scored in 2019.

Fellow two-time All-MASCAC selection Camille Desrochers (Westford, Mass.) returns for her junior season after a breakout sophomore season that saw her hit .329 with a .436 OBP scoring 47 runs and collecting a league best 28 doubles in 2019.

The 2017 MASCAC Rookie of the Year and 2018 All-MASCAC honoree Mycala Moody (North Attleboro, Mass.) will return to the Rams outfield in 2020 after spending most of 2019 as the Rams shortstop.

The 2019 Regular Season Champion Bridgewater State was selected as the favorite collecting 48 points and six first place votes. Fitchburg State lands in third with 34 points followed in fourth by Westfield State with 32 points. MCLA is fifth with 24 points and Worcester State picked up 21 points for sixth. Rounding out the 2020 poll in seventh and eighth are Salem State and Massachusetts Maritime with 16 and seven points, respectively.

The Rams will open the 2020 campaign on Sunday, March 15th when they start a 10-game swing at THE Spring Games in Clermont, Florida.
