Softball Takes Game Two 13-9 in Split with Roger Williams

Bristol, R.I. – The Framingham State University softball team received four hits from senior Lauren Salisbury in a 13-9 game two victory over Roger Williams in a non-conference doubleheader at Paolino Field.  The Rams were edged 4-3 by the Hawks in eight innings in the opener.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Game 1 -

  • In the opener, the Rams tallied a pair of runs in the top of the second on an RBI single from Victoria Ziner and an RBI fielder's choice by Mycala Moody.
  • Roger Williams got a run back in the bottom of the third cutting the gap to 2-1, before tying the game with a single run in the bottom of the sixth.
  • After a scoreless seventh, the game went to extra frames and the Rams grabbed the lead in the top of the eighth.  With the runner placed on second to start the inning, freshman Farrah Adam sacrificed senior Lauren Salisbury to third.  Freshman Laela Pepin followed with a double to left center scoring the go ahead run.  The Rams loaded the bases with two outs, but could not push another run across.
  • In the bottom of the inning a two run double to left center by Alex Lombardo gave the Hawks the walk-off victory.
  • Senior Kelsi Gunarathne took the loss in the circle for the Rams going seven innings and allowing four runs, two earned, on nine hits with three walks and two strikeouts.
  • Pepin finished the game with two hits, a run scored and an RBI, while Grace Caughey and Ziner finished with two hits apiece.

 

Game 2 -

  • In game two, the Rams trailed 8-5 after three innings and scored a combined eight runs in their final four at bats to secure the victory.
  • A three run first inning put the Rams in the lead early.  Caughey and Salisbury each doubled in a run and Ziner reached on an error plating the third of the frame.
  • Roger Williams scored four in the bottom of the second taking a 4-3 lead.
  • The Rams responded with two in the top of the third moving ahead 5-4.  Pepin tripled plating a run and Ziner reached on an error with two outs scoring Pepin.
  • Four more for Roger Williams in the bottom of the inning pushed the lead to 8-5.
  • The Rams got one in the top of the fourth on an RBI single by Adam cutting the gap to 8-6.
  • The Rams scored three times in the top of the fifth taking the lead for good.  Camille Desrochers doubled to center plating a pair and Salisbury followed with an RBI single up the middle.
  • The Rams tacked on four more in the top of the sixth and the Hawks added one in the bottom of the seventh to reach the final margin.
  • Caughey earned the victory in the circle tossing 5 and 1/3 innings of relief allowing five runs, three earned, on seven hits.
  • Salisbury finished the game 4-for-5 with a run scored and two RBI, while Adam finished with three hits and two RBI.
