Five Rams Honored with Selection to 2018 All-MASCAC Softball Teams

Framingham, Mass. – The 2018 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament Champion Framingham State softball team placed five players on the 2018 All-MASCAC teams in voting conducted by the league's coaches and announced by the conference office this morning. 

Freshman designated player Grace Caughey (Mendon, Mass.), junior pitcher Kelsi Gunarathne (Providence, RI) and senior outfielder Dayna Marchant (East Bridgewater, Mass.) have been selected to the first team, while freshman catcher Camille Desrochers (Westford, Mass.) and sophomore outfielder Mycala Moody (North Attleboro, Mass.) have been named to the second team.

Caughey earns her first All-MASCAC honors after an outstanding rookie season where she hit .383 with eight doubles, a triple and three homeruns with 31 RBI.  Caughey, who earned MASCAC Rookie of the Week honors three times this season, also made 18 appearances in the circle with a 6-3 record.

Marchant earns her fourth All-MASCAC honor after an outstanding senior season that saw her hit .489 with 66 hits including seven doubles, five triples and 25 RBI. Marchant, who is the FSU career hit leader, surpassed the 200 career hit mark during the season and also holds the record for hits in a season (66).

Gunarathne, the 2017 MASCAC Pitcher of the Year, repeats as a first team selection after leading the league in just about every pitching category this season.  Gunarathne made 25 appearances including 19 starts with 14 completes games. She went 15-6 in the circle with a 1.62 ERA in 129.2 innings of work. Gunarathne led the MASCAC in ERA, strikeouts (124), innings pitched, strikeouts per seven innings (6.69) and wins.

Desrochers earns her first all-conference honors after batting .302 with seven doubles and 10 RBI with eight stolen bases.  Moody, the 2017 MASCAC Rookie of the Year, earns her second All-MASCAC honors after batting .379 with five doubles, two triples and 18 RBI during her sophomore season.

The 2018 Rams finished the season 24-15 and were the second seed in the 2018 MASCAC Tournament. The Rams captured their second straight MASCAC Tournament Title and earned the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
